COMMUNITY OUTREACH INTERN

FAN is seeking a Community Outreach Intern to assist in the management and growth of our community presence and awareness. This is an opportunity for a student to gain experience working in a nonprofit organization and learn the importance of community outreach. The ideal candidate will be a compassionate individual with an appreciation of service to their community who can educate the community on substance use disorder (SUD), the resources we offer, the work we do in the community, and our upcoming fundraisers/events.

 

Basic requirements include: Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program from an accredited university; basic knowledge of SUD; excellent oral communication skills; detail-oriented with strong organizational skills; self-motivated with an enthusiasm for building relations and event planning; willingness to submit to a volunteer background check and drug screening. 

Responsibilities will include: Assisting with the planning and coordinating of community events; assisting with soliciting donations for community events; assisting with canvassing the community to share resources and promote upcoming events; identifying possible partnership and education opportunities in the community; supporting in the coordination of fundraising events; assisting in the recruitment of volunteers; assisting the Community Engagement Coordinator with scheduling and supervising volunteers; and spreading information about FAN by hosting informational tables at community events.​

HOPE NOT HANDCUFFS CALL CENTER INTERN

FAN is seeking a Hope Not Handcuffs Call Center Intern to assist with fielding calls to the Hope Line, getting individuals placed into treatment centers, and organizing their transportation. The Hope Not Handcuffs Hope Line is a helpline service provided by FAN as a part of our Hope Not Handcuffs program. It is designed to help individuals struggling with substance use disorder (SUD) by offering immediate assistance and support while connecting individuals to treatment. The ideal candidate will be a compassionate and patient individual with a passion for helping others.

 

Basic requirements include: Current enrollment in undergraduate social work, psychology, family studies and child development, public health, human services, criminal justice, or related degree program at an accredited university; ability to adjust hours of work based on community needs, including working some evenings and weekends; ability to work independently as well as in a team environment; basic knowledge of SUD, recovery-oriented systems of care, and trauma-informed services; awareness/sensitivity to the needs of individuals who are seeking recovery services; organized and efficient in effectively managing multiple intakes and reporting requirements; willingness to submit to a volunteer background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities will include: Fielding calls to FAN’s Hope Line in a professional and compassionate manner; assisting individuals with accessing support resources for SUD; working with community partners to provide comprehensive information and referrals; utilizing the Hope Not Handcuffs data system and reporting platforms to complete intake for treatment and other FAN services; regularly reporting data and intake outcomes; communicating with other team members during and after each shift regarding intakes and any calls that may require follow-ups; maintaining confidentiality; ability to build and maintain rapport with individuals who need lineage to services; all other duties as assigned by the Lead Call Center Technician.​

MARKETING/SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN

FAN is seeking a Marketing/Social Media Intern for the fall of 2024 to support the growing needs of our organization. We are looking for an individual who can contribute fresh ideas and create content to educate the community on substance use disorder (SUD), the resources we offer, the work we do in the community, and our upcoming fundraisers/events. The marketing intern will provide support for our marketing team, including but not limited to: completing projects related to branding; content creation and social media marketing; designing marketing materials; and contributing to marketing campaigns to further FAN’s strategic goals.

Basic requirements include: Current enrollment in undergraduate program in marketing, communications, or similar field; basic knowledge of SUD, marketing principles, and industry trends; a passion for destigmatizing SUD and all other mental health disorders; strong critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, and communication skills; willingness to submit to a volunteer background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities will include: Providing insight into program development and how to continue to improve/grow the marketing program; working alongside the Creative Director and marketing team to create messaging for social media, design marketing materials, and all other tasks as assigned; contributing to marketing campaigns that further FAN’s strategic goals; applying marketing concepts to solve organizational challenges; supporting marketing team to plan, develop, and execute marketing initiatives; and completing projects related to branding, content creation, and social media marketing.

COMMUNITY RESEARCH INTERN

FAN is seeking a Community Research Intern to assist in the management and growth of our community research initiatives, focusing on improving health outcomes and how crisis services are accessed by individuals impacted by substance use disorder (SUD). This is an opportunity for a student to gain experience working on a large-scale community health project, enhancing their understanding of public health research, program management, and community engagement. FAN is looking for a compassionate individual who is dedicated to serving their community and passionate about addressing health disparities and advancing health equity.

Basic requirements include: Current enrollment in undergraduate degree program at an accredited university;  basic knowledge of SUD; excellent oral and written communication skills; detail oriented with strong organizational skills; problem solving skills and critical thinking abilities; must be available on every other Monday, every Tuesday, and Thursday; background in public health, mental health, behavioral health, and/or research is encouraged.

Responsibilities will include: Helping with literature reviews, data collection, and analysis for intervention; assisting in the development and organization of program manuals and guidelines; attending project meetings, taking notes, and contributing to discussions and decision-making processes; assisting in identifying and developing health outcomes to measure the impact of the intervention, and helping with data collection methods through piloting phases of the project; and identifying potential community partners, assisting in asset mapping, and contributing to the creation of logic models.

NALOXONE PROGRAM SUPPORT INTERN

FAN is offering an opportunity to provide support to its overdose education and naloxone distribution (OEND) program, a long-standing public health strategy in response to the opioid crisis. Responsibilities of this intern will include but not be limited to preparing materials, promoting public awareness of opioid risk and overdose prevention, and improving data collection to evaluate community impact.

Basic requirements include: Current enrollment in a relevant degree program at an accredited university; basic knowledge of SUD; basic knowledge or training in bystander first-aid and CPR; interest in overdose prevention and community response strategies; excellent research, persuasive writing, and interpersonal skills; proficiency in Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel; ability to memorize and follow the fundamentals of the program’s opioid education; experience in college-level introductory statistics and/or public health is preferred.

Responsibilities will include: Organizing materials and assembling and maintaining records of naloxone rescue kits and wall mounts set for distribution in the field; organizing materials for training events; collaborating on community-based overdose prevention activities; conducting follow-up calls with existing community overdose training partners and naloxone public access station hosts; evaluating and contributing to the program's data collection process.

COMMUNITY RESOURCE COORDINATION INTERN

FAN is seeking a Community Resource Coordination Intern to assist in the management and growth of our community resource hub, focusing on connecting individuals impacted by substance use disorder (SUD) to social resources. This is an opportunity to learn about the different resources available throughout the state of Michigan and the social determinants of health. The resource hub is a pool of resources that peer recovery coaches, a call center, case managers, and other direct service staff use to help individuals in the community. FAN is looking for a compassionate individual who dedicated to serving their community and passionate about addressing health disparities.

Basic requirements include: Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited university; basic knowledge of SUD; excellent oral and written communication skills; detail-oriented with strong organizational skills; problem solving skills and critical thinking abilities; ability to self-motivate and initiate tasks independently as well as with others; background in social work, public health, mental health, behavioral health, and/or research is encouraged; time commitment of a minimum of 14 hours a week

Responsibilities will include: Conducting research and organizing community resources related to recovery support, food, employment, housing, family services, transportation, and education; becoming familiar with related social determinants of health and the different barriers individuals with substance use disorder face to identify areas where additional support may be necessary to promote an improved quality of life; utilizing computer and organizational skills to update resources by county and category across the state of Michigan on the existing platform; reviewing existing resources on the resource hub, confirming information is up-to-date, and identifying gaps among the existing system.
